Porcelain Veneers

Dr. Woods provides beautiful, natural-looking veneers.

Beautiful and natural-looking

A dental veneer is a thin layer of porcelain or composite material bonded to a tooth’s surface to correct badly stained, chipped, irregularly shaped or crooked teeth or gaps. Dr. Woods has extensive experience in cosmetic dentistry and in treating with veneers. Dr. Woods provides both minimal-preparation veneers and traditional veneers.

Minimal-Prep Porcelain Veneers

Dr. Woods uses Lumineers ultra-thin veneers.

Lumineers veneers are ultra-thin, similar to a contact lens.

Where appropriate, Dr. Woods uses the well-known Lumineers® porcelain veneers. Lumineers are durable, contact lens-thin veneers that require little to no tooth preparation. This is instead of the usual approach of shaving or cutting the tooth down prior to applying the veneer.

Not only do Lumineers® meet Dr. Woods’ minimally invasive criteria, but they are also strong and have a translucent quality that give the appearance of natural teeth. Minimal-prep veneers can be a good option for many patients, depending on what the veneers are being used to fix and the state of the patient’s teeth.

Creating your new smile with Porcelain Veneers

Dr. Woods can enhance your smile with natural-looking veneers.

Dr. Woods can enhance your smile with natural-looking veneers.

After your initial consultation, Dr. Woods will take an impression (sometimes called ‘wax-ups’ or ‘study models’) of your upper and lower teeth. He works with you to choose the shape, color and size of your veneers as well as the overall look. Then he will send the mold to a highly experienced dental lab along with photos and other records.

Occasionally, Dr. Woods may create a temporary so you can see the final product as it will look once your veneers are affixed.

Once your veneers are ready, Dr. Woods will place them, ensuring a good fit. He will check to make sure each newly bonded veneer fits correctly and comfortably, and doesn’t interfere with your bite or adjacent teeth in any way.

You are now ready to show the world your new smile!

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is the application of composite resin material to a tooth to cover up a discolored or chipped tooth, to close gaps or to change the shape of teeth, or to make teeth longer. It is a fast, economical alternative to porcelain veneers.

There are times, however, when Dr. Woods doesn’t consider dental bonding an appropriate solution,  for example when the correction in question is in an area of high bite pressure (back teeth, for example.)  In general, dental bonding isn’t as durable or stain resistant as porcelain veneers.

No preparation is needed for dental bonding. Dr. Woods applies the composite resin to your tooth and hardens it under an ultraviolet light, then polishes it to a tooth-like finish. Dr. Woods has used dental bonding to make emergency teeth for temporary use for a couple of days.
